Ricardo’s drawings are the result of looking at his surroundings through the eyes of an artist. In this respect, he is no different from painters and sculptors of the past, who also transformed reality through their own memories.
Ángel Ricardo Ríos’s work is sustained by the constant act of making. Rather than being defined by fixed concepts or clearly delimited stages, his practice is articulated through daily repetition, continuous work, and a direct relationship with the act of painting as a persistent exercise. Born in Cuba in 1965 and based in Mexico since 1991, the artist has developed a career that encompasses painting, drawing, and sculpture, understanding these languages as part of the same process: to produce, to persist, and to allow the work to be constructed without anticipating results or establishing fixed directions.
