Brooke

Alfaro

Brooke Alfaro was born in Panama and studied Architecture at the National University of Panama, where he was taught by prominent architects and artists such as Guillermo Trujillo and Alberto Dutary. It was during this period that his artistic career began. To refine his technique, he decided to study painting at the Art Students League of New York in the United States. In 1979, he held his first solo exhibition at the gallery of the Panamanian Institute of Art, Panarte. Since then, Brooke Alfaro has received several national and international awards in recognition of his work.

He has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Panama, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Spain, the United States, among other countries, as well as in various art biennials and competitions around the world. Since the beginning of his career, Brooke Alfaro’s work has revolved around the Latin American surrealist imaginary, where everyday characters intertwine with memories of classical works, transporting viewers into unsettling narratives. At times, this is achieved through characters that directly confront the viewer, as well as through landscapes and lush vegetation. In addition to painting, as a perfectionist and evolving artist, Brooke has also ventured into sculpture, installations, and video art, with painting being his greatest success and the medium that has established him as a recognized artist.
