Atchugarry

Pablo Atchugarry, born in Montevideo in 1954, has developed a body of work focused on the exploration of marble as a material capable of conveying movement, balance and spirituality. He currently lives and works between Italy and Uruguay.

After experimenting with materials such as iron, cement and wood, Atchugarry discovered marble in Carrara in the late 1970s. That encounter defined the course of his artistic practice and gave rise to a sculptural language characterized by vertical forms, polished surfaces and fluid curves that seem to defy the weight of the stone.

His abstract sculptures create a feeling of lightness and elevation. Through folds and upward lines, the artist transforms the marble into dynamic compositions that change according to the light and the movement of the viewer.

Throughout his career, Atchugarry has installed monumental sculptures in public spaces in Europe and Latin America, and has exhibited in major international museums and institutions. His work is part of prominent public and private collections, consolidating a practice that connects classical sculptural tradition with a contemporary sensibility.
