Inspired by drawings of controlled spontaneity, his creations often yield to more ethereal and lightweight forms, allowing the observer to appreciate them visually and to see through them with the gaze. Cárdenas transforms the rigid nature of his materials, making what is heavy appear light, what is rough acquire softness, and what is static become organic movement.
By incorporating polyurethane tubing and plastic strapping, his works achieve a greater degree of lightness and transparency, evoking organic elements such as bird nests, clouds, or mangroves. Nature has always been the guiding thread of his artistic reflections, although a certain figurative intention intertwines with his taste for abstraction.
His works, mostly open structures, awaken curiosity about their content, stimulating the imagination with infinite possibilities. The seemingly random distribution of rectangular modules creates spaces where light and shadow complement one another, extending both horizontally and vertically, providing a sense of endless growth.
In his own words, Cárdenas seeks to represent the way impressionists painted: with free and spontaneous action. His creative process, driven by pieces of different colors, shapes, and sizes, allows him to create sculptures instinctively, bringing to life a visual dialogue that evokes the freedom and fluidity of Impressionist art.
