Andriy

Halashyn

Andriy Halashyn was born in Ukraine, first visiting Costa Rica with his father, a prominent stained-glass artist. Once there, the young artist fell in love and never looked back, making the country his home for the past 15 years. Today, Halashyn is a global sensation, exhibiting in prominent galleries around the world. His lavishly dystopian paintings carry a rich cosmopolitan flair, with references to high popular culture, fashion, and advertising.

His use of oil paint in representation has a graphic appeal and is richly saturated with color, while his collage-like compositions juxtapose flights of fantasy with harsh realities. Across several bodies of work, Halashyn has explored the stark contrasts between media flows and the everyday realities of life, all with a dramatic touch in both color and composition. His work has earned him several awards both in Costa Rica and in Ukraine.
